WISEBURN SCHOOL DISTRICT UNIFICATION

(7/12/05)

The process for converting the Wiseburn School District from a K-8 into a K-12 district is still on hold while the State Board of Education is reviewing two of the conditions for the vote. For additional information please see the Wiseburn School District website.

Wiseburn School District Unification (11/15/04)
Overview Wiseburn Unification Process:

  • Wiseburn’s petition to become a unified (K-12) school district was approved by the State Board of Education on September 9, 2004
  • Next step is approval by the voters in the Wiseburn School District – scheduled for March 8, 2005 ballot
  • Voters will also elect a new Wiseburn Unified School Board (5 Trustees) on March 8, 2005
  • Wiseburn taxpayers will continue paying our share of Centinela Valley High School District’s Measure C School Bond ($59 million approved in 2000) if unification is approved, so Wiseburn’s unification will be cost neutral to the Centinela Valley District. (No change from existing obligation.)
  • If approved, unification would take effect July 1, 2006. Wiseburn would have 5 years to implement a High School program or lose their unified status (revert back to K-8 district).
  • Centinela Valley District has filed a civil lawsuit challenging the unification (CEQA environmental study) Explore High School Options:
  • Gather community input –poll community regarding type (academic-only or full-service), size & location of high school
  • Evaluate possible locations, type and costs for new high school
  • Currently forming Exploration Committee – volunteers to research options for Wiseburn’s high school
  • Funding for high school – new school bond – amount to be determined by new Wiseburn Unified School Board based on community input, type and location for school. Won’t vote on until after unification is approved.

Additional details and information will be posted on the HHA’s website www.hollyglen.info
